I'm proud to be bisexual

14 year old female

I'm proud to be bisexualAs a teenager, sexuality is a difficult subject. It's really difficult to talk about, especially if you aren't heterosexual. As a bisexual, I've always had difficulties in school. I could never get changed in front of other girls without getting really nervous. I distanced myself from other people for a while because I was worried about what they would say. I told my mother and she said that you can never truly be sure of your sexuality. I told my father and he said I was lying and trying to be 'cool' by being something I wasn't. I told one of my best friends and she said 'How can you be sure?' I thought that I was all alone and that nobody would understand me. I thought I was weird. Being bi isn't the first thing that made me different. I wear different clothes, I'm really smart and I'm in the 'outcast' category of the school. But I've realized now it doesn't make me weird. I told some other friends, using information from the Kids Helpline site, and realized not everyone is a homophobe. They accepted me for who I was, and that really helped me. Now I'm proud to be bisexual!
